Running a home based online business means that you become totally reliant on a computer. For this reason we have two. When one breaks we can still keep an eye on our websites and keep the business ticking over.

The other day our main machine had a few problems when I tried to upgrade some virus protection software. This forced me to upgrade from XP SP1 to SP2 which I had been putting off for some time. Did I say upgrade - I mean tried to upgrade. To make a long and sorry tale short, the offending machine was dispatched to someone who knew what they were doing. The “PC Doctor” kindly reformatted the hard disk and the rebuilt the PC.

During his investigations, he found I had over 1500 spyware programs in residence. This explained why it had started to run a bit slower. However I was more than a bit surprised, because I had downloaded some software which I though was keeping the parasites at bay. Read the rest of this entry »
